67. Wire - One Of Us

From The Album Object 47

Alright I admit it, I have never really been into Wire. Supposedly they are a big deal in the indie scene. Supposedly they were one of the originators of the post punk sound which influenced a new generation of underground rock. Supposedly Pink Flag is one of the greatest and most underrated rock album of all times. I listened to it three times before hearing Object 47. From very novice standpoint, Object 47 is cleaner and more structured. "One Of Us" is the opener on Object 47 and is not only the best song on the record, but arguably the best song of 2008. I argue this is the best of 2008 despite a horrendously cliche "New York" tourist video shot entirely with a fish eye lens. Strike one & two. Why not just show some tour footage spliced with concert footage buffered with band members asleep on the bus juxtaposed by some shots of you working in the studio contrasted with you eating at a diner side by side with the footage of your band on the subway? That sounds like an awesome video. If your song wasn't so good and didn't pack a brutal punch, I would have some more harsh words to say. But I can't.
