Utawarerumono (I)

This past week, I just finished the first disc of the anime series Utawarerumono. The series comes from a Japanese visual novel (a mixture between choose your own adventure and an RPG). The story revolves around a masked character whose is shrouded in as much mystery as he is kindness. He becomes attached to a village as they deal with daily strife in feudal Japan...err fantasy feudal japan with fox creatures and dinosaurs. The masked stranger befriends two tweens, Arurū and Eluluu as they fight against local leaders and hired assassins. I found the protagonist to be very much an fusion of every good quality thought up by an inexperienced writer. This character has no visible flaws besides an unwavering kindness and intrigue. This makes him extremely boring to watch at parts. My girlfriend disagrees with me and tells me that the protagonist is different than most anime archetypes and in fact the hotheaded local Oboro is more akin to the anime stereotype. I do not know. We are getting the second disc. I am disinterested in the series however i do not despise its very existence. perhaps my mind will change.
